Canalave City (Pokémon DPPt) Jazz Arrangement

If I could pick any place to live in the Sinnoh region, I think it'd be Canalave City. A quiet, beautiful portside town with a library and a drawbridge! Thanks so much to @TeraCMusic for playing violin on this! 🎶 Available on my Pokémon DPPt album Sinnohvation! • • • https://album.link/xmprhz5rwbj3j Sheet Music • • • https://bit.ly/3CNobJj ❤️ Patreon • • • http://bit.ly/supportinsane 👕 Merch (Shirts & CD's) • • • https://www.hellomerch.com/collections/insaneintherain 🎷 insaneintherainmusic Signature SYOS Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece (Use discount code "INSANESYOS" for $10 off!) • • •https://www.syos.co/en/artists/carlos-eiene Excited to be sharing another re-arrangement with you all! This arrangement of Canalave City I put together a few years back is one of my favorite Diamond & Pearl arrangements before the Year of Sinnoh. I kept this arrangement pretty simple, and faithful to the original arrangement I did. To me, Canalave City is a very simple and relaxing place, so I wanted to keep that emotion present in the arrangement! I can't remember the name of the record, but I heard a record a while back on a Spotify playlist featuring tenor sax and violin / viola playing a melody together in unison, and it just sounded so so cool. I had the fortune to record a whole string ensemble (mostly) of Berklee players this past December! I've had a desire to do some Sinnoh songs that are a bit more orchestral in nature, so I decided to put together this group of string players and record some arrangements! They're taking a bit of a back seat role in the arrangement of this particular song, but you'll see them stand out quite a bit in covers that are coming up. This cover is one of the first times I've made a substantial difference between the YouTube version of this track and the track that's going up on Spotify / other music distributors. I original had a 40-second-ish intro that introduced the song, but honestly, I felt like it just stretched out the song more than it needed to be, and took too long to get to the point. I decided to keep the intro as part of the mix for the Spotify version of this song (so check it out there if you'd like to hear the full thing), and uploaded this edited version here to YouTube! Both versions are available for download for my Patrons on Patreon! :) Lastly, I thought I'd draw your attention to the snare drum I'm playing with brushes. One of my New Year's resolutions that I intend to keep was to make 2020 the year of live drums. As in, I want to avoid using sequenced drums wherever possible. I did use a couple of samples for a suspended cymbal roll and a big bass drum hit in this track, but everything else is live drums! This particular track has a really simple drum part, so I figured it'd be a good candidate to start with. Plus, jazz brushes are notoriously difficult to sequence well, so I figured that a live recording would sound best! Expect to see more live drum performances from me coming in the future! Pokémon DPPt: Floaroma Town - Jazz Clarinet & Orchestra Arrangement

Floaroma Town: "Vivid & Scented". A place as beautiful as this one can remind us to be grateful for what's around us in nature. Who knows, maybe Shaymin will come along and make the flowers bloom :) 🎶 Available on my Pokémon DPPt album Sinnohvation! • • • https://album.link/xmprhz5rwbj3j Sheet Music • • • https://bit.ly/3ohcTaj ❤️ Patreon • • • http://bit.ly/supportinsane 👕 Merch (Shirts & CD's) • • • https://www.hellomerch.com/collections/insaneintherain 🎷 insaneintherainmusic Signature 3D Printed Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece (This affiliate link supports me with your purchase!) https://www.syos.co/en/artists/carlos-eiene?affiliation=6147d201050302001e48abcd Very happy to be covering this beautiful tune from Sinnoh! This tune is another under-appreciated town theme that I don't think gets enough love, but unlike Canalave City, the Floaroma Town theme is used in another part of the game! If you were lucky enough to get Oak's Letter (I never did as a kid, I just got the Toys R Us Shaymin in 2008), then you would have heard this theme on the comically long Seabreak Path! I only ever saw the Seabreak Path when I got an Action Replay... so most of my memories of this song come from honey trees and the berry shop in Floaroma Town! I wanted to arrange this song for a super lush orchestration and featuring one of the best clarinet players I know, Jose! I played with him at a friend's recital here at Berklee once, and I was blown away by his awesome tone and nearly effortless sound. I knew he'd sound great playing the lead part o this tune, and his parts turned out wonderfully! Along with the solo clarinet, I had the fortune of adding live strings, harp, and piano at a string session I did back in December, and I recorded drums and a saxophone section! Yep, I'm back playing alto again, I'm borrowing one from a friend at school to play in our school's wind ensemble, thought I might as well make some videos with it. The instrumentation ended up sounding wonderfully soaring, vintage, and cozy, which is what I was going for! In fact, there is no MIDI at all in this cover! I'm quite proud of that. Mixing this cover, though, was a different story. Because of all the elements in this tune, and the difficulty that often comes with balancing very dynamic music, I had to spend a lot more time mixing this tune than I usually do with my music. When I shared a preview of this song on my Patreon Discord channel, my friend David commented that this sounded a bit like a Disney orchestra... so I actually used the Disney soundtrack "Up" as a reference mix! Up has one of my favorite soundtracks of any Disney film, mixing in some modern film scoring tropes with vintage jazz elements, so that worked pretty well at establishing a good goal for this tune. In the end, I'm pretty happy with this arrangement! I always want to tell a compelling story with my music, and I think this arrangement accurately portrays the peacefulness and happiness that I think of when I think of Floaroma Town!
